best books 2013 end of year survey
End of year survey on December 18th?  Yes, the year is not quite over yet but I don’t read as much in the month if December and decided to participate in the fabulous end of year survey created by Jamie at The Perpetual Page-Turner

Best YA book 2013

1. Best Book You Read In 2013? (If you have to cheat — you can break it down by genre if you want or 2013 release vs. backlist)
It’s a toss-up between The Other Typist by Suzanne Rindell and Reconstructing Amelia by Kimberly McCreight

2. Book You Were Excited About & Thought You Were Going To Love More But Didn’t?

Cartwheel by Jennifer Dubois

3. Most surprising (in a good way!) book of 2013?

The twist in Alex by Pierre Lemaitre

4. Book you read in 2013 that you recommended to people most in 2013?

Reconstructing Amelia, the conniving premise held me and thought it was a great thriller.

Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer

Henry Farrell, author of What Ever Happened To Baby Jane?

7. Best book that was out of your comfort zone or was a new genre for you?

The book that was most out of my comfort zone was On the Pulse of Morning by Maya Angelou.  I loved I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings but poetry is not my genre of choice.

It is hard to list just one as I read so many unputdownable books in 2013 but one I haven’t mentioned yet is The Book of Matt by Stephen Jimenez

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix by J.K. Rowling

10. Favorite cover of a book you read in 2013?

11. Most memorable character in 2013?

It would have to be either Baby Jane Hudson from What Ever Happened to Baby Jane or Augustus Waters from The Fault in Our Stars; two polar opposites.

Enon by Paul Harding

13. Book that had the greatest impact on you in 2013?

Manson by Jeff Guinn was a real eye-opener.

Even though it was only published last year I can’t believe I didn’t read The Fault in Our Stars by John Green sooner.

 15. Favorite Passage/Quote From A Book You Read In 2013?

I’m not much of a quote person but the passages in Enon were beautifully constructed.

16.Shortest & Longest Book You Read In 2013?

Longest: Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix by J.K. Rowling
Shortest: On the Pulse of Morning by Maya Angelou

17. Book That Had A Scene In It That Had You Reeling And Dying To Talk To Somebody About It? (a WTF moment, an epic revelation, a steamy kiss, etc. etc.) Be careful of spoilers!

This could change but for now it is Cress by Marissa Meyer

3. 2014 Debut You Are Most Anticipating?

To Be Decided

4. Series Ending You Are Most Anticipating in 2014?

  1. Great wrap up! I am looking forward to Cress too and of course Harry Potter is a yearly re-read for me!

Here is to 2014 and more book surprises!

  2. Lol, about your comment on being an ice princess and that you don't cry while reading books… I usually don't cry when I read either, but I cried my eyes out while reading The Art of Racing in the Rain by Garth Stein. The storyline is told through the eyes of the pet dog, Enzo & the story has sad parts…

I'm also a huge fan of Maya Angelou's works. I've seen Maya Angelou speak live twice over the years and she's amazing! She'll recite her poems, sing, and in general give captivating talks! On the Pulse of Morning is one of my favorite poems she has written.
