One of the goals I’ve completed for Bloggiesta was to join Twitter (user name fondofbooks) I’ve been mainly lurking the past few days but it was completely different from what I was expecting. Despite my current lack of tweets it is much easier to use than I thought, and more mature (for some reason I pictured preteens tweeting with horrific grammar). I was also resistant to hashtag, whatever happened to the pound button? I lived to be stubborn, and like the elder in me still calling the Willis Tower Sears, I feared I couldn’t adjust. Fortunately, I did.
Anyway, I’m in the process of writing a review for Happily Ever After by Elizabeth Maxwell and was thinking about tweeting said review, but wasn’t sure how to go about doing it. By this I mean do you add a # or @ anywhere in the tweet or just send it out straight? I don’t have many followers as of yet so would the first be more beneficial? I’m a bit nervous to send it out to publishers/authors too, though I’m not sure why.
Now for memes, perhaps it is because I have been out of town so often the past few months but after going through semi-recent posts during Bloggiesta I realized with the exception of Sunday Post I haven’t participated in any. It is a little relieving as there is no worry about getting that Top Ten Tuesday post up so I’m in the first ten in the linky and, my blog doesn’t feel as bogged down by memes either. There was a period of time where I felt like that was all my blog consisted of, and while its a great way to build followers after reading 20 posts that list Harry Potter as their favorite childhood book it gets a bit old.
During Bloggiesta I created a weekly post/meme of my own, Femme Fatale Friday which features lusty women in literature. On a gloating note, I even created a button (my first) for it, by using great instructions at River City Reading’s mini-challenge on PicMonkey.
Thus, with the exception of that and an occasional Sunday Post (because I’m all about lists and progress posts) I’ve decided to drop memes altogether.
This is not meant to critique anyone who does enjoy participating in memes, it is just my personal thoughts, what do you all think?
Glad you were able to use the tutorial to create a button!
I'm excited you joined Twitter and it hasn't been as hard as you expected! This article is actually really helpful when it comes to navigating. http://blog.bufferapp.com/twitter-tips-for-beginners
The @ and # can be kind of confusing. I would just tweet your review out in general, but what I usually do tag the publisher (so, @touchstonebooks at the end of your tweet).
When post a review I tweet from my page to twitter. It shows title of my post and link to said post. I do @ publishers who sent to me, and sometimes @ author I use the # when I want to let peeps know genre or giveaway involved. I am now stalking you on twitter. I only do two memes, the Sunday Post and Waiting on Wednesday. I don't do Wow every week, but love it because it is easy and window shopping for new books.
So glad you're on Twitter now! Maybe you will be able to join in on the read-a-thon chats and perhaps join us someday for our TuesBookTalk chats. Sadly, I can't follow you right now because Twitter won't let me follow anyone right now. But as soon as they let me, I follow you! Here's my handle: @truebookaddict
I have my blogs linked directly to Twitter via Feedburner so all my posts are automatically tweeted.
