My To Be Read List is a monthly meme hosted by Michelle at Because Reading. Each month I will make a post with three books from my TBR list. Readers will then vote on which book I should read next. The following Saturday the winning book will be announced. Then on the last Saturday of the month I’ll post a review.

American Pharoah: The Untold Story of the Triple Crown Winner's Legendary Rise
by Joe Drape

Published by Hachette Audio
Publication Date April 26, 2016
Goodreads
History was made at the 2015 Belmont Stakes when American Pharoah won the Triple Crown, the first since Affirmed in 1978. As magnificent as the champion is, the team behind him has been all too human while on the road to immortality.
Written by an award-winning New York Times sportswriter, American Pharoah is the definitive account not only of how the ethereal colt won the Kentucky Derby, Preakness, and Belmont Stakes, but how he changed lives. Through extensive interviews, Drape explores the making of an exceptional racehorse, chronicling key events en route to history. Covering everything from the flamboyant owner's successful track record, the jockey's earlier heartbreaking losses, and the Hall of Fame trainer's intensity, Drape paints a stirring portrait of a horse for the ages and the people around him.
The Zookeeper's Wife
by Diane Ackerman
Publication Date September 17, 2008
Goodreads
When Germany invaded Poland, Stuka bombers devastated Warsaw—and the city's zoo along with it. With most of their animals dead, zookeepers Jan and Antonina Zabinski began smuggling Jews into empty cages. Another dozen "guests" hid inside the Zabinskis' villa, emerging after dark for dinner, socializing, and, during rare moments of calm, piano concerts. Jan, active in the Polish resistance, kept ammunition buried in the elephant enclosure and stashed explosives in the animal hospital. Meanwhile, Antonina kept her unusual household afloat, caring for both its human and its animal inhabitants—otters, a badger, hyena pups, lynxes. With her exuberant prose and exquisite sensitivity to the natural world, Diane Ackerman engages us viscerally in the lives of the zoo animals, their keepers, and their hidden visitors. She shows us how Antonina refused to give in to the penetrating fear of discovery, keeping alive an atmosphere of play and innocence even as Europe crumbled around her.

I’ve been really wanting to read The Zookeeper’s Wife, and so I voted for that one. They all sound like good choices though! I read White Fang many many years ago for school, although I can’t remember much about it. I hope you enjoy whichever wins! Have a great week!
I’ve had The Zookeeper’s Wife on my tbr for what seems like forever! I’m really curious as to how faithful the film was to the book. Thanks for voting.

I’ve heard great things about White Fang! John Lee is a narrator I’ve been wanting to try too, so I’m really curious to listen to it.
I voted for The Zookeeper’s Wife because I own that one but haven’t read it yet. I think I’ve had it on my TBR for a while.
