Off The Blog

On Friday I voted to be “stronger together”. With all the stress and havoc this particular election has caused it was a relief to cast my ballot and declare my fight song. Now I only have to hold my breath and restrain myself from throwing things at the tv until November 8th.

Biggest turn-around in opinion

Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs — I was crazy about the book but it was more Gothic than I was expecting.

Strange things that happened in the books I read:

A child goes missing and there is a death at a bachelorette party.

  1. I’ve been wanting to try Daisy Goodwin for quite some time and Victoria looks really good. And Then There Were None is one of my absolute favorites and I’m super curious to try a Sophie Hannah book with her own characters. I’ve read both of her Poirot books but I don’t think that’s quite the same. Have a great week!

  2. This election year has been a disgrace, it really has, and I mean that for both parties and all the media. This is not what I want for my grandchildren. I remember when the presidency was honorable, and it meant something. At this point, I watch the news now in tiny bits, and then look away.

  3. Ha ha so true about the election. It’s maddening watching people spread disinformation (stuff they actually BELIEVE)- in an era when there is so much information out there, why are some so fact challenged? Anyway… lol I like your breakdown of strange things that happened in books. Fun!

  4. The Harry Potter thon sounds like so much fun! Yes, I can barely open my mailbox because of all the election flyers. I will be glad when the polls close. Hope your week is amazing!

  5. lol about YOUR politics. From the Philippines here — like yours, politics here is like watching telenovelas everyday… but you know i don’t watch tv anymore. I watch live feeds from youtube or fb — i discern everything from there. i dont trust mainstream media anymore.

  6. Doesn’t it feel good to vote and know you’ve had your say? Up here in Canada (or down here, for folks in Alaska), we’re all waiting, holding our breaths, waiting to see how the election unfolds. Thank goodness for books to help us momentarily escape into other worlds and centre ourselves.

  7. I am about to start viewing Victoria as it has started showing here on TV and I have the first one recorded. I am also watching the Harry Potter movies as they are showing one a week at the moment on TV. I have never read the books or seen the movies and am enjoying!

  8. Looking forward to next week Wednesday! Today my mailbox had 10 election flyers! I’d rather get books. Great reading month.

I love Harry Potter, the books and movies. I hope to read your posts from your blogathon this week.

  10. Slight pain reading this knowing how the election turned out…and also wishing I’d found it in time to follow the HP week “live”! But my kids and I are about to watch Goblet of Fire, so that’s my contribution!
