Far From the Madding Crowd is a victorian version of The Dating Game. Bathsheba Everdene who circles a “woman without a man is like a fish without a bicycle” mantra has three suitors who vie for her affections while being overly scrutinized.
The obvious choice in the viewer’s mind, being sensitive and considerate but is somehow never chosen.
The haughty one who thinks he has it in the bag.
Sergeant Francis Troy
Bathsheba Everdene This is where boners go to die.
In victorian fashion, there is conflict and realization that Bathsheba made a bad choice and now must face the consequences despite the bees to honey vibe she gives out. Although in almost Jane Austen fashion all ends as it should.
Far From the Maddening Crowd is a bit slow at times and definitely a chick flick who I would recommend to those who enjoy a good period piece.
