My library supports Overdrive allowing ereaders to checkout books and this week they just added Kindle! I was super excited to hear this as I have mention my library is moving and this option will help fill the void. The site actually reminds me a lot of Netflix as you can hold/save/checkout “books”. What’s the best part? No late fees, the book disappears on its own after said due date. Of course, I had to download one, the process was relatively easy, because I have an older version I had to connect via a USB cable (which did you know the kindle charger turns into a USB cable? It was like magic when my mom figured that out for me). Anyway, after watching the “how to” video numerous times and a little frustration with my tech-imparedness, tada, I have checked-out my first book, The Giver by Lois Lowry one of my favorites growing up. Once I got the hang of it, its very easy to do and can’t wait to check out more soon!
I am really excited about getting to check library books out on my Kindle too! The convenience is great and it will be nice not to have to worry about when a book is due.
We were all happy at my library when this finally went through — we've been waiting and waiting for Overdrive and Kindle to work things out so they could make this happen! 🙂
Mine too! I'm so excited that Kindle is finally allowing libraries to lend their books. And I'm glad this helps with your library-moving-away dilemma. It all just makes me want to cheer.
