It’s Monday, What Are You Reading? is hosted by Sheila at Book Journey
I read zero books this week. The week prior, I finished The Dinner by Herman Koch although I loved it I did not get around to posting its review until this past Wednesday. Why? Because sometimes (at least for me) I need to chew on a novel for a while and digest my thoughts before putting my words to type. I want to form the words just so and give the book the exemplary (I hope) review said book deserves.
Okay, so I read a book last week why am I reporting on nothing? I am reporting on nothing because all week I have been hung-up on Truth in Advertising by John Kenney.
Truth in Advertising is a fictional account of a sad lonely man assigned to a diapers commercial over the Christmas holidays. It is long winded, disjointed with a hectic attempted at witty writing. I hate giving up on books and have had to force myself to pick it up each night making reading a chore. That was when this stubborn lady decided it was time to throw in the towel. I’ll be writing a DNF post later this week.
What I will be reading next has yet to be decided. am considering The Golden Compass by Philip Pullman, but then again I have Christina Schwarz’s The Edge of the Earth checked out from the library. In other words I have no idea. Any suggestions?
I understand what you say about having to think about some books before you can write your thoughts down.
For a new book; what about one of our other great Dutch authors *since you liked Herman Koch) like Arthur Japin, or Hella Haasse or Tessa de Loo? I know they are all translated into English.
kind regards,
I will go with the library book since it has to be returned eventually.
We all have those weeks…
I would go with Mystica on the fact that library books need to be returned ultimately but The Golden Compass (it has a different title hear in the UK) is a pretty good book.
Good thing we don't have to list all our DNFs for the week….Sorry this was a disappointment.
Here's my It's Monday. I hope you will stop by!
Your blog makes me want to read Anne of Green Gables all over again, dammit!!! Okay, reading suggestion: The One Hundred Year Old Man Who Climbed Out of a Window and Disappeared by Jonas Jonasson. You will NOT regret it! 🙂
What a pity you had a DNF. I had one, too. It happens… Off to check your review of The Dinner. I loved that book! My review comes next week.
Sometimes you just have to DNF, for me if it feels like torture it is not for me and I won't do it.
I've learned to give up when I have to. I give it a fair shot, but when I know I'm done, I just pick up something else. Life's too short. Having just finished The Grapes of Wrath, I needed something light and fluffy to cleanse my palate, so I'm going to start Angus, Thongs, and Full-Frontal Snogging next. Polar opposites! I hope you have better luck this week!
Just finished reading Knots and Crosses and started Haunted Ground.
