I found this tag at Pretty Deadly Reviews and with the reboot starting today it seemed apropos.
I JUST GOT HIT BY A DEER – character having the worst day ever
Cinder from The Lunar Chronicles — Her step mother volunteers her to be a test subject for a vaccine to a deadly disease. Plus, she makes a fool of herself in front of her crush. Talk about adding insult to injury!
STARS HOLLOW – wildly eccentric cast
The town of Bishop’s Lacey from the Flavia de Luce series. They are eccentric as the residence of Stars Hallow and are only missing Luke’s Diner.
COFFEE – a book you’re addicted to/a character w/ an addiction
Pretty much every character in Play it as it Lays by Joan Didion has an addiction of some kind. It takes place in 1960s Hollywood — enough said. As for a book I’m addicted to, that would probably have to go to either Harry Potter or Pride & Prejudice as I read them every year.
SOMEONE DEVIL EGGED BY CAR?! – great act of revenge
Amy Dunne from Gone Girl framing your husband for your own murder? I’d call that revenge.
MR. MEDINA – an illicit affair
Mamah Cheney and Frank Loyd Wright from Loving Frank by Nancy Horan. Their’s is a forbidden affair with dire consequences.
KIM’S ANTIQUES – a world you’d be afraid to enter
The Handmaid’s Tale by Margaret Atwood is set in a near-future North America, in a totalitarian Christian theocracy where women have lost all rights and are looked upon as objects rather than people.
HARVARD VS. YALE – character who needs to make a life-changing decision
Gwen for The Teaplanter’s Wife by Dinah Jefferies. The novel takes place in the 1920s and to save face Gwen must give up one of her children due to the color of their skin.
LUKE’S DINER – a comfort read
I have a few but Harry Potter is the first that comes to mind. The series just makes me happy.
AM I CRYING OR LAUGHING? – a book that messed with your emotions
The Book Thief by Marcus Zusak. This book puts me through an emotional roller coaster.
EMILY – the HBIC (Head Bitch in Charge)
Mrs. Danvers from Rebecca — she is evil reincarnate and the Head Bitch in Charge of Manderly.
LORELAI AND RORY – favorite family dynamic
The Bennet family from Pride and Prejudice. I love the banter and eccentricities of Mrs. Bennet. I’m not sure it is a family I’d want to be a part of but the dynamic is great to read about.
I PUSHED HIM IN THE LAKE! – a book you’d throw in a lake
Making Lemonade with Ben by Katherine J. Perreth a memoir which comes off as a pity party.
1000 YELLOW DAISIES – favorite romance
I have ardent love for Elizabeth Bennet and Fitzwilliam Darcy.
JESS – an unpopular opinion
I read Wench by Dolen Perkins-Valdez for a book club several years ago and hated it. The rest of the club adored it and was a New York Times best seller — what do I know?.
FIRST SNOW – snowy or holiday read
I always read Harry Potter is my go to winter read. However, Holidays on Ice by David Sedaris always has me laughing too.
HEP ALIEN – book centered around music
The Silver Swan by Elena Delbanco, step-siblings fight over the inheritance of a priceless violin.
HE’D BETTER HAVE A MOTORCYCLE! – your book crush
Even though I love Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy’s relationship I wouldn’t mind having him to myself either!
IT’S REPETITIVE AND REDUNDANT – a book that could have been shorter
Outlander by Diana Gabaldon was way too long and too much of a supermarket trash novel.
KIRK – the weirdest book you’ve ever read
French Lessons by Ellen Sussman was a weird sordid novel that was a step away from Scruples.
IT’S A LIFESTYLE. IT’S A RELIGION – that one book that means more to you than any other
Harry Potter and Pride and Prejudice, I gush over these books and read them every year — They are awesome!
