Weekly Prompt

What are some of your favorite, hated or memorable character names?

Answer:

In Pride and Prejudice retellings they tend to shorten or the characters names or use them as a jumping off point.  I get that, but in the sense of creativity (or lack thereof ) it can be a tad irksome to me.

Two examples are:

  • Wick in Prom & Prejudice by Elizabeth Eulberg
  • Bing Lee in The Lizzie Bennet Diaries by Kate Rorick

Beginning

Harry Potter was a highly unusual boy in many ways. For one thing, he hated the summer holidays more than anytime of the year. For another, he really wanted to do his homework but was forced to do it in the dead of the night. And he also happened to be a wizard.

Harry Potter is lucky to reach the age of thirteen, since he has already survived the murderous attacks of the feared Dark Lord on more than one occasion. But his hopes for a quiet term concentrating on Quidditch are dashed when a maniacal mass-murderer escapes from Azkaban, pursued by the soul-sucking Dementors who guard the prison. It's assumed that Hogwarts is the safest place for Harry to be. But is it a coincidence that he can feel eyes watching him in the dark, and should he be taking Professor Trelawney's ghoulish predictions seriously?
