It’s just a normal morning when Anna's husband announces that he's leaving her for her best friend and taking their two daughters with him.

With her safe, comfortable world shattered, Anna distracts herself with someone else's story: a true-crime podcast. That is until she recognises the name of one of the victims and becomes convinced that only she knows what really happened.

With nothing left to lose, she throws herself into investigating the case. But little does she know, Anna's past and present lives are about to collide, sending everything she has worked so hard to achieve into freefall.

Anna and Finn are thrown together when it is discovered that their spouses are having an affair and, because Finn has nothing better to do he follows Anna around the globe as she plays Carmen San Diego while attempting to solve an unsolved mystery via podcast.

The plot of Conviction hooked me. Unfortunately, it ran into the “Goosebump problem”. In R.L. Stine’s Goosebump series, he would end each chapter on a cliffhanger, the door would creep open of its own accord but in the next chapter the reader would learn it was only a cat. Sadly, this was a common occurrence in Conviction. The unsolved mystery podcast was interesting however, I really couldn’t care less what happened to Anna and Finn, their irrational decisions left me eye-rolling and had me wondering if I was wasting my time.

When Anna and Finn finally solve the crime the twist is unimpressive with a less prominent character becoming a combo of Rebecca and “The Claw” in Inspector Gadget. I think the issue with Conviction is that it would have been better off as a podcast instead of a full-fledged novel which was sadly lacking.
