Classic Author Event

Posted January 18, 2012 by Whitney in Event / 15 Comments

I am thinking about holding a monthly event dedicated to beloved classic authors.  Each month I will chose one author to devote that month to. For example, the month of February may be dedicated to Jane Austen, (the obvious example) in which I will post mainly about her.  I would also be interested in perhaps having guest posts on said author, I think it would be very cool to learn others thoughts on the subject rather than just my own.

I thought of this idea after participating in November’s Autumn Author prompt, and realized that while I adored Pride and Prejudice didn’t know much on the author herself.  This sent my mind in motion of all the authors I love but after setting Little Women or Jane Eyre down I’d just moving on to the next book with out a care of the person who wrote it.  This event is really a way for myself (or anyone else) to learn of the writer behind the book (that might be a good title) hopefully in a fun low key manner without coming off as a book report.

I had begun throwing around this semi-book report in my head a few nights ago so is still in the incubator stage.  Therefore there may be some tweaking going on.  Anyway, while rather vague at the moment I’ve thrown my thoughts out there  and we’ll see where they land.

    • I agree, it is always interesting to know what pushed an author to pursue different avenues in their writing. You of all people should know!

    • I would adore it if you would participate, I love your classic posts! I wasn't thinking about starting until March to get myself organized, but I'll be posting "updates" in the mean time

  1. Sounds like fun! At one point, I thought about blogging some or all of the former Newbery winners… but then got busy doing a lot of other things. Still, the great thing about blogging about classics, is you know they aren't going anywhere, right?

  2. I've enjoyed looking through all of the different classic author challenges you have now, and this monthly focus sounds like a great idea. Don't hate me, but I'll have to pass on the Austen month as I'm finding after a few tries that i Just Don't Get It.

  3. This sounds like a really fun idea! I can't wait to see where it goes! I love Austen–Alcott would be a fun one, or Dickens, or Francis Hodgson Burnett–uh-oh, I'm nerding out! Anyway, I'll be following to see what comes of this!

  4. Hey there! Just stopping by to see if you're still doing the read-a-thon this week. If so, please be sure to sign in at the starting line when you start reading. The post will be up at midnight tonight (Monday, 1/23 at 12:00am CST U.S. time). Hope you're still with us. =O)
