The Introverted Reader is hosting a weekly meme entitle Character Connection
We all have characters we love. Let’s spotlight these fantastic creations! Whether you want to be friends with them or you have a full-blown crush on them, you know you love them and want everyone else to love them too!
This week’s literary crush is that “Damned Elusive Pimpernel”
(Sir Percy Blakeney)
(Sir Percy Blakeney)
Come on, he’s the Scarlet Pimpernel, charming, cunning, witty (he did come up with that catchy song) and Percy can sword fight. Although I think this quote sums up my adoration for Sir Percy Blakeney
“He was but a man madly, blindly, passionately in love, and as soon as her light footsteps had died away within the house, he knelt down upon the terrace steps, and in the very madness of his love he kissed one by one the places where her small foot had trodden, and the stone balustrade there, where her tiny hand had rested last.”
Yes..I can even remember the chapter from which you've quoted those lines. Chapter 11 – Richmond. According to my book at least. LOL.
He's wonderful and as you can see, I used to have quite a literary crush on him! Still do.
I have never read this, but I love that quote! I'll be adding it to my list!
Have you read any of the Pink Carnation series by Lauren Willig? They're a very fun romance-y take on The Scarlet Pimpernel.
+JMJ+
I have this book in my to-be-read drawer–and now you've made me really excited!
Kals — Yes, I could remember the chapter too! I believe it is Richmound. Baroness Orczky makes it much to easy to fall in love with Sir Percy.
Jennifer G — You'll love the Scarlet Pimpernel. I've heard very good things about the Pink Carnation series but have yet to read them, they're going on my wish list.
Enbrethilel — I'm so glad I made you excited about this book. I'm actually quite excited to read the others in this series myself.
I LOVE The Scarlet Pimpernel and Sir Percy Blakeney. I read it for the first time when I was fifteen and he completely turned my head. The movie was a horrible disappointment though
I enjoyed the Leslie Howard adaptation I think it's 1939 adaptation. Although, no adaptation could compare to the book.
you are reminding me. i must pick up my copy to read. i actually want to read it this year for a french historical reading challenge. percy sounds so intriguing.
