We all have characters we love. Let’s spotlight these fantastic creations! Whether you want to be friends with them or you have a full-blown crush on them, you know you love them and want everyone else to love them too!
Elphie, is an Animal rights activist working for the greater good and those on Main Street rather than the Wizard’s Wall Street.
While the Wicked Witch of the West would probably push me aside, never giving me a second glance, she is still someone I’d like to be friends with. Anyone who can put up with self center Glinda with such devotion is worth the effort. She is subtlety thoughtful which goes unnoticed because of her sarcastic remarks and stubbornness. Elphaba is just a very interesting person who I would love to have a conversation with.
I haven't read the book yet but I've seen the musical (6 times) and Elphie was my favorite character at first, then it moved to Fiyero and Boq lol.
I know the book is almost completely different from the musical so I'm pretty anxious to see how Fiyero and Boq are different in the book versus the musical!
It's been so long since I read this that all I remember is the musical. I love your comparison to Obama! I agree with you that she would brush right past me, but it would be interesting to get a peek inside that mind. Great choice!
I found her an interesting character, but I don't think I would want to have a conversatino with her. I would be too terrified. She totally freaked me out
what a fantastic character to pick!
Marie– I love the musical too! There are quite a few differences, mostly cutting things out for time and making it more "family friendly" I think Boq has a little more backbone in the book too.
Jen– MSNBC must have put the Obama idea in my mind. I would love to get a peek inside her head, even for 30 seconds.
Becky– I can understand that Elphaba is a littte intimidating; she is a witch after all…
Priya Parmar–Thank you! I think she's such a well developed character, it's difficult not to have some opinion of her.
I have never read this book…but it has caught my interest π And I love how quaint the cover is!
+JMJ+
The last I read of Wicked, people were recommending that someone who was having a hard time with it just drop it, saying it wasn't worth it. Then they admitted that a reader will either hate it or love it. This is actually the first positive review I've found in a while!
I think I'd like Elphaba, too. I adore sarcastic characters!
Great character connection…
I think she is one of the most complex characters out there π Glinda in her own way (though far less likable) also complex but I like Elpheba much more π
Vaishnavi– I love the cover too, it's so inviting.
Enbrethiliel– You either hate it or love it. I think a lot of it has to do with your feelings on the original work.
Felicia–All three witches are very complex, but East and North are just far less likable. And considering that she is such a well known character already makes it even more impressive.
Great post! I also love Elphaba! As a kid I was totally obsessed with the wicked witch of the West, and "Wicked" was such a treat to read. Thanks for sharing…
PS – I liked this so much I made it a link on "The Friday Five" on my blog! π
Thank you for linking me on your Friday Five! I loved the Wicked Witch of the West growing up too. Super creepy, and she's only in the film adaption for like 17 minutes.
