We all have characters we love. Let’s spotlight these fantastic creations! Whether you want to be friends with them or you have a full-blown crush on them, you know you love them and want everyone else to love them too!
I was watching this movie with a friend recently, in which it was brought up how attractive Atticus Finch is, and not just as Gregory Peck. First, he is a single working dad who still finds time to teach his youngest, headstrong daughter Scout morels of life, treating her like an adult in such matters and hope to tame her “wild ways”. Secondly, he is one of the best shooters in the county but chooses not to brag about this accomplishment, feeling that it may not want to be the reflection he wants to bestow upon his children Jem and Scout, and that there are more admirable qualities than being a good shots man. Thirdly, and this plays a major part of the novel, is his belief in Tom Robinson and his innocence in the crime of rape that has been committed, with Atticus never stopping to fight for what he believes in. Another example of this is of Atticus’s strong opinion that there is nothing wrong with Boo Radley and that his children should leave him alone in peace. I find this last statement extremely hot, as I love anyone who is willing to look past a persons disadvantages and see them for the good person that they are. I shall end with one of my favorite quotes “You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view-until you climb into his skin and walk around in it.”
We rencently featured Atticus as part of our top ten characters, hes always up there isn't he?
Whitney – You are sooo right. I'm not sure there is anything more attractive in a character than the belief that you must stand up for what you believe in, that everyone has the right to legal representatioon, that prejudice is wrong. Wow, yeah Attitcus rocks!
Well said!
Jessica– yes, and rightly so. There's just something about him.
Becky– I think it's easy to be attracted to someone who feels so strongly about their believes and actions
Juju–Thanks!
i have always loved the way he uses the word climb in that sentence. it is not a fuzzy wuzzy easy thing but a conscious effort to see something from another vantage point. wonderful wonderful character.
Excellent choice — the strong, silent type wield a lot of power and influence.
I'm with you…Atticus Finch is DIVINE!
To answer the three above: Yes, Yes & Yes!
I hope no one will kick me when I confess I never read that book.
Shocked silence. Crickets chirping.
To Kill A Mockingbird is a phenomenal book, it's worth the read.
It's TKAM week here on Character Connection, isn't it? 😉 How funny!
Atticus made it into my Valentine's Day post on book crushes. You said it all better than I did, but I agree with everything you said. Atticus is just as close to perfect as you can humanly get.
Atticus would be a wonderful Valentine's Day crush. Now he sets my standards to unrealistic proportions.
Another book that I can't believe I haven't read yet, but it is sitting on my desk now waiting to be read. Atticus Finch sounds good! And that shot of Gregory Peck's is amazing!
To Kill A mockingbird never ages, and it's message still resonates true today. And yes that is an amazing shot of Gregory Peck, he's perfect as Atticus Finch.
